Museums n'That
Museums n'That
Museums n'Out
Oh no. Oh dear. What's happening. We don't like it.
A little news: that Meg over there has gone and got herself a new job! The sausage.
So is this the last episode of Museums n'That ever? Maybe. Do we love you all deeply for the support you've given us throughout the last 6 series? Absolutely. Did Danny listen to us and ask DPD to change his delivery route? 100%.
Thanks so much. Museums n'That might be back. But in the meantime, you are always very welcome to stay in touch - @saralmerritt, @MuseumMeg and @LeedsMuseums on ye olde Twitter.
Over and out x
Meg: I don't know, I have no words.
Sara: I've got no words.
Meg: You know I did tell someone the other day, though, and they said they were genuinely gutted.
Sara: Really, who was it?
Meg: One of my friends, like, Otley friends.
Sara: Okay, can I just say, your friend's gutted. You've not told me you're gutted.
Meg: Course I am, I'm too broken up about it to talk about it, I don't want to talk about it.
Sara: Brilliant. Why are we gutted? What's happening? Go on, it's your news.
Meg: My news is, well, our news is that-,
Sara: We're having a baby.
Meg: We're having a baby.
Sara: No, we're not.
Meg: No, we're not. It's just that I'm actually going to be leaving my role at Leeds Museums-,
Sara: Boo.
Meg: In, literally, one week's time.
Sara: Double boo, fine, go off and do things you want to do, fine.
Meg: Sara's doing that thing, where, like, you know when your parents get divorced and then you're, 'Shut up, don't want to talk about.'
Sara: Yes, basically, I'm pretending it's not happening.
Meg: Yes, to be fair, I'm getting a lot of attention and I do really like it.
Sara: Yes, I bet you are.
Meg: If you're a bit of an attention seeker, I'd advise leaving your job, even as a hoax for a bit.
Sara: Yes, we have, like-, oh, I'm really going to miss this actually, in the office, we have a weekly poll, and today, the poll is, 'Meg Jones or The Meg?' You chose The Meg.
Meg: I did.
Sara: Yes, I chose The Meg too.
Meg: Yes, I knew you would.
Sara: Yes, With an accompanying illustration, where one of our other team members had to pretend they were swimming, so that Lily could draw the arms.
Meg: Really good.
Sara: Then I used the poster picture of the Meg 2 to illustrate the shark, which wasn't great.
Meg: Also, I bought a trench-coat because the Meg 2 is called The Trench.
Sara: Yes, and we all have to go and wear trenches.
Meg: 100%.
Sara: Excellent, I'm there.
Meg: Really. So anyway, we're doing this just as a little ditty, just to tell you that I'm going.
Sara: Yes, it's just a little self-indulgent-,
Meg: It's the last time you'll hear me in your ears.
Sara: Audio piece for you, isn't it?
Meg: Really, yes, let's just all talk about things that we love about me.
Sara: What's your favourite sandwich?
Meg: Oh yes, yours is egg and cress.
Sara: Probably.
Meg: Yes, yes, my favourite sandwich, I'm going to shout out to Rod because Bron (ph 02.08) do a sandwich that is tuna, parmesan, this is crazy, red onion and sweet chilli jam.
Sara: Crunchy combination.
Meg: In fact, that reminds me, one of my first times at Leeds Museums and Galleries, I got that sandwich at Leeds Art Gallery, and I thought, 'Wow, wow, wow.'
Sara: Maybe we should get one as a parting gift.
Meg: Maybe we should. Sorry, so a couple of questions for you, what's been your favourite time that you've-, what's your favourite thing about me?
Sara: Oh Christ.
Meg: What's your favourite time that you've spent with me.
Sara: Do you know, we went to a conference in Glasgow a few years ago, that was really fun, we went to a Tiki bar.
Meg: I'm glad you brought that up.
Sara: Yes.
Meg: I think we've talked about that on the podcast before. God, this really feels like the end of an era, doesn't it?
Sara: It is the end of an era.
Meg: God, I should put some violins on this.
Sara: Some sad ones, what's that sad music one? Can you do that button?
Meg: Sad.
Sara: Yes.
Meg: Yes, Glasgow was really fun, wasn't it?
Sara: Yes, Glasgow was fun.
Meg: Glasgow, I'll have to spend some time in Glasgow.
Sara: Yes, well, maybe. Maybe we'll go together, maybe not.
Meg: Yes, maybe.
Sara: We've had a lot of fun train times together actually, we've spent a lot of time on trains together.
Meg: Yes, this feels like at the end of, like-, you know when the writers give up and there's just an episode that's a mish-mash.
Sara: Yes.
Meg: This is a mish-mash episode of all of our favourite times. We have had fun train journeys. Do you remember that time that I went for loads of wees on the way down to speak to Dan Vo, Queer Britain?
Sara: Oh, that was horrendous, like, six.
Meg: My bladder's never been so-, it was overactive.
Sara: It was, wasn't it, that day?
Meg: Yes.
Sara: We were worried about it. It's a good job that Queer Britain is only, like, a short walk from the train station.
Meg: What's your favourite podcast we've done? What's your favourite episode?
Sara: Oh, that's an excellent question. Christ, we should have really prepped for this.
Meg: We've not prepped for this, by the way.
Sara: I think Owen Gower's coming to mind because he was really sweet.
Meg: Oh, sweet prince.
Sara: Yes, that was a really good episode. I learnt lots. I like learning about medicines, so that was good. How about you? I also feel like the very first series that we did because it was all new and exciting and it was really fun and we were, like, 'Maybe this is a thing that will work and maybe it won't, and we'll just try it.'
Meg: I remember the first time that we-, when we released the first ever trailer that we did, sent it round to everyone in the office, and Emmy, who was our trainee registrar at the time, cried. Well, she was, like, 'I feel so emotional.'
Sara: I think we knew we were onto a winner then, made Emmy cry.
Meg: I really liked Cat's episode about human remains. I talk to Cat about human remains just endlessly.
Sara: Bog bodies.
Meg: Bog bodies, that was really good.
Sara: Yes. Do you remember that time, in fact there was a time-, now, we can tell them all the things that we didn't tell them at the time, do you remember when we got stuck in that-, do you remember that time that we were in hotel in Liverpool?
Meg: I knew what you were going to say, I knew. I was, like, 'We went through the back of the hotel in Liverpool.'
Sara: This man called Greg was, like, 'Do you want to see the back of the hotel, where we've got this replica Titanic staircase, that was also never in the Titanic,' or something. I was really confused by the story.
Meg: Okay, but basically, I was, like, 'No, thank you, Greg. We're fine. We're late for our reservation.' Sara literally didn't catch up on any of those cues and goes, 'Yes, great. Greg, take us to the back of the hotel and we'll see this weird thing,' that was fun, and also awful.
Sara: Yes, not cool.
Meg: No, I locked my door.
Sara: Yes, I did, double lock.
Meg: Yes, that was fun.
Sara: So, no sweet dreams from Greg.
Meg: What else have we done?
Sara: Actually, one of my favourite episodes was with Joe in reading, that was so funny. I have never laughed so much at the word 'glass'.
Meg: Yes.
Sara: It was so hot that day.
Meg: We had such a good day. I was so sweaty.
Sara: So sweaty, we'd done London and, like, a weird impromptu V&A trip, we managed to get in, don't know how, and then went to Reading and had really lovely sandwiches and Joe got stung by a bee and we sat in a park and then we did the podcast and went round their museum, and it was just really lovely.
Meg: I felt like a teenager that day, you know when you get the giggles?
Sara: Yes, yes.
Meg: We had the giggles for the whole of that episode.
Sara: Yes, that was really good.
Meg: That was so lovely. Had a good time, Smez (ph 06.08), had a good run.
Sara: Had a good run, yes but, you know.
Meg: It's not necessarily the end.
Sara: Yes. No, we don't really know what's happening. Obviously, Meg's leaving for a new role, so there's a job going, guys, and yes, we don't know what's going to happen because there are lots of things happening at Leeds Museums at the minute, which means we're, you know, moving in all sorts of directions.
Meg: All bits and bats.
Sara: All of it.
Meg: Yes, come and do my job, it's amazing, just do it, just don't be as good at it as I am, no, please do, it's a really good job.
Sara: Where are you going then? Where are you leaving us for?
Meg: Well, I've been fought over, is the thing.
Sara: Have you?
Meg: No, I haven't. Yes, I'm going to be going to Harewood House, so you can come and see me there.
Sara: Can I get in for free?
Meg: Yes, you can. I don't know actually. My future employer's probably listening to this, going, 'No.'
Sara: 'Don't bring her or her dog.'
Meg: No, no, but then I'm also going to be doing freelance stuff, freelance Fridays, off the back of doing this.
Sara: That's very cool, isn't it?
Meg: Yes, I've had a few lovely little jobs doing freelance work for the people who want podcasts.
Sara: Very cool, end of an era.
Meg: So yes, end of an era. I guess we've got some thanks to say, and the thanks are-,
Sara: Thanks to you.
Meg: Thanks to you, the listener.
Sara: The listener, for putting up with us. God, I hate being-, we're so deprecating. You know, yes, thanks.
Meg: We are great, we (talking over each other 07.18) great.
Sara: Thanks for coming along for the ride, it's been really fun.
Meg: Yes, so wonderful, and, like, every time anyone's messaged or left a review, we get really excited about it and I feel we screenshot them some Sara.
Sara: Yes, also, I've got a shed-load of badges.
Meg: Yes, you don't even have to review. If you want a badge, just let me know and I'll sort it.
Sara: Yes, just send us your address, Or, you know, pop into a museum in Leeds, I'll put some badges out.
Meg: I actually love the idea of someone coming into Harewood House and being, like, 'Meg's got a badge for me,' and then me just going out to my boot and giving them something out of my boot. That's funny, isn't it?
Sara: That is funny. You can have some, I'll give you some.
Meg: Yes, thank you.
Sara: You're welcome.
Meg: I've actually got loads.
Sara: Yes, I know, yes.
Meg: Anyway, thank you so much, everyone, I really appreciate it and it has been an absolute ball.
Sara: Yes.
Meg: Ache, I'm not allowed to say that, it's been a nightmare.
Sara: Yes, the best kind.
Meg: Sad.
Sara: Well, I guess this is it. What are you going to wear for your leaving do?
Meg: Feathers.
Sara: Great.
Meg: What are you going to wear to my leaving do?
Sara: My first thought was snakeskin.
Meg: Snakeskin?
Sara: I don't know why.
Meg: Yes.
Sara: I don't like to wear snakeskin.
Meg: Fake snake.
Sara: I don't know, I feel like I need to do something complementary of completely clashing with you, or as a pair or something.
Meg: Yes, it's like when Siamese twins get separated.
Sara: Who gets the heart?
Meg: Who gets the head?
Sara: Neither of us (inaudible 08.42) the heart, oh dear.
Meg: Anyway, in summary, thank you so much. I love you each very deeply, and also you, and I've had an absolutely great time and thank you for listening.
Sara: Yes, thanks, everybody.
Meg: Okay, bye.
Sara: Over and out.
Meg: Sad, over and out, Museums N'Out, see you later, bye.
Sara: Bye.
